Srikanth sails into Denmark Open final

first_imgBy Amit Kumar DasOdense, Oct 21 (PTI) Indias Kidambi Srikanth stands one step away from his third Super Series Premier title after he dished out a superlative display to outwit Hong Kongs Wong Wing Ki Vincent in straight games to reach the mens singles final of the USD 750,000 Denmark Open, here today. The 25-year-old Indian, who clinched the Indonesia Open and Australian Open this year besides reaching the final of the Singapore Open, defeated Wong 21-18 21-17 at the Odense Sports Park here.A 2-2 head-to-head record in career meetings -? all of which had gone to the decider ?- meant nothing as Srikanth towered over Wong, showing better control and anticipation in the 39-minute semifinal duel.”I feel great. I really wanted to do well. Our game is similar but I was more patient and though I made some errors initially I learnt quickly. Next is Lee whom I have not played and I think he will be a tricky player to beat,” Srikanth told PTI.Srikanth and Wong split the initial six points before the Indian moved ahead with his rival struggling with the length of his shots. He eventually had a healthy 11-6 lead after dominating a net exchange.Wong made it 10-13 after the interval but Srikanth showed better anticipation to lead 15-10. A body smash helped Wong to make it 12-15 and then 15-18 but Srikanth didnt lose his patience and managed to control the rallies.Srikanth went into game point when Wongs return got buried in the net. Srikanth himself made a net error before pushing the shuttle to the back of the court as an out of position Wong sent it sailing wide.advertisementIn the second game, Srikanth zoomed to a 4-0 lead but a few unforced errors at the net helped Wong to make it 3-4 in his favaour. He then unleashed a smash to claw back. The Indian again surged to 7-5 lead when Wong served out.Srikanth, who won the China Open Super Series Premier in 2014, showed great athleticism when he dived and then smashed to grab a point to make it 8-6. However, Wong managed to surpass the Indian and pocket a 11-9 lead at the break. After the lemon break, Srikanth, who had won the Indian Open Super Series in 2015, reeled off three straight points to turn the tables and lead 14-12 with Wong committing two unforced errors.A jump cross court smash took Srikanth to 16-15 and he then capitalised on it, extending the advantage to 18-15. A net error from Wong gave him another point but the Indian hit wide. He then pushed the shuttle to the back to grab three match points and converted it after winning a long rally.Earlier, 37-year-old Lee Hyun Il of Korea, who plays as a professional, seemed to have turned back the clock as he conquered his younger compatriot and World No. 2 Son Wan Ho 25-23 18-21 21-17 in the other mens singles semifinal that lasted an hour and 31 minutes. In womens singles, Thailands Ratchanok Intanon avenged her loss to Chinese Taipeis Tai Tzu Ying with a 21-14 20-22 21-14 win over the World No. 1 to reach her second Super Series Premier final this year. She had lost to Tai Tzu at the final of All England Championship, second round of Australian Open and Dubai World Super Series Final last year.Ratchanok will face Akane Yamaguchi, who defeated World No. 10 Chen Yufei of China 10-21 21-18 21-19.Mixed doubles pair of Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong also reached their maiden final with a 21-16 21-18 win over third seeded Indonesian combo of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir. After Viktor Axelsens exit yesterday, Danish challenge ended today after celebrated mens doubles pair of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen lost 18-21 21-18 13-21 to fifth seeded Chinese pair of Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan. Google Pixel 4 leak shows an iPhone 11 like camera design

first_imgGoogle Pixel 4 is in news again. In the past couple of weeks a steady stream of rumours surrounding Google’s next flagship smartphone – Pixel 4 – has kept everyone excited about the phone. Most report so far have painted a uniform picture of the device indicating that the Pixel 4 would come with a bezel-less design with a punch hole display in the front and a dual rear camera setup at the back. But now, a new report threatens to change that perception.According to the 5K image renders of the upcoming Pixel 4 shared by serial tipster OnLeaks in partnership with PriceBaba, Google’s flagship smartphone would look quite similar to the Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11. The leaked images of the Pixel 4 show a squarish bump on the rear side of the phone which seems to house the dual rear camera setup of the phone. The design and the placement of the camera bump looks quite similar to images of the iPhone 11 that we have seen so far.The only difference seems to be of the camera module. While the successors to the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are expected to sport a triple rear camera setup and an LED flash that will be tucked inside the notoriously famous square camera bump (iPhone XR succcessor is likley to sport a dual rear camera setup and the bump), the Pixel 4 is touted to come with a dual rear camera setup – first in a Pixel smartphone – that will be placed inside the bump.advertisementThe Pixel 4 renders – apart from divulging in camera design – also differentiate from previous leaks in terms of the placement of the fingerprint sensor. While some reports in the past have hinted towards a rear mounted fingerprint sensor, others, particularly from a YouTube channel called Front Page Tech have indicated that Pixel 4 would come with a button-less design and that it would come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. New report by the tipster indicates a similar possibility. However, Google could also opt for a 3D face unlock module in the upcoming Pixel 4.In terms of the overall design, the Pixel 4 is likely to come with two buttons that will be placed on the right side of the device. While one is expected to control the volume levels, the other is likely to be the power control button. Then there is the case of the speakers. Previous reports have indicated that the upcoming Pixel 4 would come with two front firing speakers. However, the report by the tipster indicates that the Pixel 4 would come with two speaker grille that would be placed on either side of the USB-C port. And in case you were wondering what happened to the jack…I mean the the 3.5mm port… it remains missing in the Pixel 4 as well. In addition to this, the placement of the earpiece in the images indicates that Google will retain the notch in Pixel 4, which means that it might not come with a punch hole display.Separately, the upcoming Google Pixel 4 is likely to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and sport up to 6GB RAM. It is expected to run on Android Q and come with Google Assistant Q. Having said so, it is important to note that all these details should be taken with a pinch of salt and we will have to wait from an official word from Google to know more about the device.ALSO READ: | Google Pixel 4 image with dual punch hole camera leaked onlineALSO READ: | Google Pixel 4 could feature a button-less designALSO READ: | Google Pixel 4 image leak suggests a punch hole camera in frontlast_img read more

Growth Council to Assume New Roles

first_img The Prime Minister made the announcement during his 2018/19 Budget Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (March 20) under the theme ‘Prosperity in Action’. Story Highlights Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Economic Growth Council (EGC) is assuming new roles, having achieved the objectives it was initially established to pursue. Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Economic Growth Council (EGC) is assuming new roles, having achieved the objectives it was initially established to pursue. These new engagements, he said, include monitoring the Government’s performance in relation to specific growth-related policies and its members serving as investment ambassadors. The Prime Minister made the announcement during his 2018/19 Budget Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (March 20) under the theme ‘Prosperity in Action’.Mr. Holness said the EGC’s monitoring role will be similar to the Economic Programme Oversight Committee’s (EPOC), which, he pointed out, was established as an independent oversight stakeholder body to ensure that the Government maintains fiscal responsibility and discipline.“The EGC will now take on its monitoring role to see to it that the Government is executing the growth policies that we agreed to in the document that they prepared and sent to us,” he pointed out.Mr. Holness said the document, which was drafted following the EGC’s wide-ranging stakeholder consultations in the wake of its establishment in 2016, “creates a road map of growth strategies and policies that the Government should pursue”.“So you will begin to see… that new responsibility… being rolled out, giving regular updates to the country about the Government’s performance,” he informed. The Prime Minister advised that in relation to their proposed roles as investment ambassadors, members are working in their private capacities to attract investors to Jamaica, adding that more comprehensive details will be provided in due course.Meanwhile, Mr. Holness is defending the EGC’s establishment and work.He said the Council was conceived to, among other things, assist in transitioning economic growth from the “periphery of the political economy to the centre”, noting that this objective has been met.“They have completed that task that they (were) given, in terms of making growth a buzz word and getting the average (person) excited about the prospects and possibilities of growth and talking, now, about (how) the economy must grow instead of talking about poverty and austerity,” Mr. Holness said. Mr. Holness said the EGC’s monitoring role will be similar to the Economic Programme Oversight Committee’s (EPOC), which, he pointed out, was established as an independent oversight stakeholder body to ensure that the Government maintains fiscal responsibility and discipline.last_img read more

AFN executive meets to discuss next steps

first_imgAPTN National NewsOTTAWA—Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn Atleo announced his resignation Friday afternoon amid growing political pressure over his perceived support for the Harper government’s First Nations education bill.Atleo said he was resigning his position as the head of the organization representing First Nations chiefs across the country because he didn’t want to be an impediment to improving First Nation education.“This work is too important and I am not prepared to be an obstacle to it or a lightning rod distracting from the kids and their potential,” said Atleo, during a hastily called press conference in Ottawa. “I am therefore today resigning as national chief. I have carried out my actions based on principle and on integrity. Personally, I believe this work must happen, it can and should happen in parallel to other efforts addressing fundamental questions of how we do this work.”Atleo is the first AFN national chief to resign from his post.Atleo was in his second term as national chief. The term was scheduled to end in 2015. Atleo was first elected in 2009 after a marathon, 23-hour vote in Calgary. He handily won re-election in Toronto for a second term in 2012.A hereditary chief for the Ahousaht First Nation in British Columbia, he also served as AFN regional chief for the province before his election to the top post.Atleo was facing increasing political pressure over his perceived support for the Harper government’s First Nation Control of First Nation Education Act. A group of chiefs from the prairies and Ontario were planning to try and seize control of the AFN.Atleo said that the prime minister was being sincere in his desire to improve First Nation education on-reserve through the bill.“The current proposal on education is the latest attempt in a sincere, constructive effort on the part of Prime Minister Harper to take a step forward,” said Atleo. “The work must be understood in that context, as a challenge, not for me, or any one individual, but a challenge and a call to action for the entire country.”Atleo compared the Harper government’s work on the education bill and its impact to constitutional negotiations, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and the Kelowna Accord executed by former Liberal prime minister Paul Martin.“Now the work started so many years ago must continue. It must continue in every community, it must continue within Parliament. I challenge every party and every First Nation to carry this work forward. Failure is simply not an option. Fighting for the status quo is simply not acceptable,” said Atleo.Atleo did not offer any hints on what he planned to do next, saying only he would continue the “struggle.” He took no questions from reporters after announcing his resignation.“I will, as I have all my life, continue this struggle in other ways,” said Atleo.Reaction from First Nation leaders was swift from across the country. Many were surprised.Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office sent out a release late Friday. “Together, we helped improve opportunities for greater participation by First Nations in the economy and standards of living and quality of life on reserve, including through the Crown-First Nations Gathering in 2012. We also shared a commitment to improving First Nation education and ensuring that students on reserve have the same education standards, supports and opportunities that most Canadians take for granted.”“National Chief Atleo was a conciliator and strengthened the relationship between First Nations and the Crown.”NDP Leader Tom Mulcair said, ““It was with sadness I learned of Shawn-A-in-chut Atleo’s resignation. As Grand Chief, as Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, as AFN Regional Chief for British Columbia, or as a teacher, he has shown himself to be an inspiring leader. I thank him for all the work he has done in support of Canadians and aboriginal communities across the country.”Liberal leader Justin Trudeau tweeted: “I would like to thank Shawn Atleo for his dedication to improving the lives of First Nations and the goal of a better country for everyone.”From the east, AFN regional chief Morley Googoo, Atleo’s point man on education and ally satated, “I was saddened today to learn of the sudden resignation of National Chief Atleo. I understand, however, that in making his decision he is putting, as he always has, the interests of Canada’s First Nation children and communities before all others.”On the west coast and Atleo’s home province, B.C. AFN regional Chief Jodi Wilson-Raybould, who recently called the education act an illusion said: “It was with surprise, disappointment and sadness that I learned of the resignation of National Chief Shawn Atleo today. (Atleo) is a respected leader who articulated clear priorities and has a positive vision for First Nations within Canada.”A group of First Nation chiefs who flercely fought Atleo on the education plan, announced plans to revive a dormant oversight body within the AFN to turn the organization against the Harper government’s First Nation education bill were largely silent after the announcement.Ontario AFN regional chief Stan Beardy criticized Atleo’s handling of the file, saying he appeared to have overstepped the mandate given to him by the chiefs which was simply to negotiate with Ottawa on education, not finalize an agreement.“My understanding is that the national chief got a mandate to negotiate, but a negotiator usually comes back to the people who sent him to say, ‘this is what I managed to negotiate,’” said Beardy. The AFN executive including Beardy and Wilson-Raybould, Saskatchewan regional chief Perry Bellegarde, Quebec and Labrador regional chief Ghislain Picard and Nova Scotia regional chief Morley googoo held conference call late Friday afternoon to discuss the next steps for the organization.last_img read more

Federal budget in black for January

Federal budget in black for January by Martin Crutsinger, The Associated Press Posted Feb 10, 2016 12:14 pm MDT Last Updated Feb 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm MDT AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email WASHINGTON – The federal government recorded a budget surplus in January of $55.2 billion, helped by a timing quirk that shifted benefit payments to December. The Treasury Department said Wednesday that the surplus marked an improvement from January 2015 when the government recorded a small deficit of $17.5 billion. Part of the improvement reflected the fact that $42 billion in benefit checks were sent out in December because the regular payment period fell on a weekend. For the first four months of this budget year, the deficit totalled $160.4 billion, below last year’s deficit of $194.2 billion for the same period. Both the Obama administration and the Congressional Budget Office are forecasting this year’s deficit to top last year’s imbalance of $439.1 billion.Obama, in the new budget he released Tuesday, projects that the deficit will jump to $616 billion this year while the CBO is forecasting a deficit of $544 billion. The CBO projects that the deficit will keep rising and top $1 trillion again in 2022 as the costs of Social Security and Medicare climb with the retirement of the baby boomers.Through the first four months of this budget year, which began Oct. 1, government receipts total $1.08 trillion, an increase of 3.2 per cent over the same period a year ago. Government outlays total $1.24 trillion, down a slight 0.1 per cent from the same period for the 2015 budget year. read more

BC flooding closes natural gas plant forcing CNRL to shut wells

B.C. flooding closes natural gas plant, forcing CNRL to shut wells by Dan Healing, The Canadian Press Posted Aug 4, 2016 5:03 am MDT Last Updated Aug 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm MDT AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email CALGARY – Flooding in northeastern B.C. in June that exposed pipes and washed out an access road at a natural gas processing plant, prompting it to shut down, has interrupted about 10 per cent of gas production by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., the company said Thursday. In its second quarter report, Canada’s largest gas producer said the closure of the Pine River Gas Plant has forced it to cap wells that were producing 176 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.Canadian Natural Resources said the operator of the plant, Spectra Energy, expects full production to resume in December.“It obviously impacts us. You can see production was impacted in the quarter and it’s impacted the guidance for the year,” Canadian Natural Resources president Steve Laut said in an interview.“As far as (financial) impacts on the company, I think it’s relatively minor because gas netbacks are fairly low right now so it doesn’t hurt our cash flow that much.”The closure in mid-June reduced gas production by an average of about 50 million cf/d for the three months ended June 30, Canadian Natural Resources (TSX:CNQ) said. Second-quarter gas output fell to about 1.69 billion cubic feet per day from 1.79 billion cf/d in the first quarter.Canadian Natural Resources reported a net loss of $339 million or 31 cents per share in the quarter, an improvement from last year’s net loss of $405 million or 37 cents per share. Revenue was $2.55 billion, down from $4.73 billion but slightly above an estimate of $2.4 billion. The company reported overall production of 784,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the quarter, down three per cent from the same period of 2015.A voluntary shutdown of the company’s above-ground Primrose East pipeline in northeastern Alberta to investigate stress corrosion and cracking reduced heavy oil output by 13,000 bpd in the quarter, Canadian Natural said. On a conference call, chief operating officer Tim McKay said the pipeline was repaired and restarted in May and the company is investigating the cause of the problem.Canadian Natural said an expansion of its Horizon oilsands mining project is on track to start up as expected in October and take full capacity to 182,000 bpd in November. The next expansion phase is to start up in late 2017 and will add 80,000 bpd of capacity.Follow @HealingSlowly on Twitter. read more

Softball team falls flat in 2011 season

Plagued by injuries and inexperience, the Ohio State softball team’s 2011 season was subpar. The Buckeyes (14-37, 3-17 Big Ten) did not qualify for NCAA regional play for the first time in three years and posted their worst record in more than seven seasons. OSU graduated seven seniors after the 2010 season and started about five underclassmen each game in 2011. Besides the added inexperience on the Buckeyes’ roster, injuries to 2010 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Melanie Nichols, senior Rachael Shepherd, redshirt senior Lindsay Bodeker, and junior outfielder Katie Simonton reduced the depth in OSU’s lineup. Nichols had a team-high 130 strikeouts in 2010 with 21 wins. Nichols’ injury meant that no pitcher on the Buckeyes’ 2011 roster had started a game. “The pitching position is by far the area we struggled in,” coach Linda Kalafatis said. “For the kids returning, the experience was helpful.” The Scarlet and Gray posted a 5.98 ERA, and opponents hit .311 against them last season. OSU was last in the Big Ten in both categories. The Buckeyes were ninth in the Big Ten in batting average, hitting .248. “That drive and that motivation is what’s really going to help when you’re working with young players,” senior outfielder Dee Dee Hillman said. Hillman struggled at the plate this year, recording a .251 batting average, the lowest since her freshman-year average of .288. Kalafatis said OSU’s poor pitching created scoring deficits that the team’s batters struggled to make up for. “I think the pressure that puts on an offense to score and be productive is very, very difficult,” Kalafatis said. OSU’s series against Purdue on April 16 and 17 illustrated this. The Buckeyes allowed seven runs in a single inning in each of the two games against Purdue, which OSU lost, 7-0, and, 10-8, respectively. The experience gained last season could benefit the Buckeyes in 2012. “I don’t know how much different we could have done with the injuries, some discipline things and some unfortunate events that happened during the year,” Kalafatis said. “It was certainly not up to the standards that my staff and the team have.” Nichols will be coming off shoulder surgery next season. She tried to return this season after her surgery in July, but was not successful. Nichols posted an 0-2 record with a 10.84 ERA in 10 1/3 innings pitched. Other pitchers who made appearances were freshmen Kasie Kelly and Audrey Plant. Kelly was 4-10 with a 6.10 ERA in 34 appearances with 19 starts. Plant made 18 appearances with five starts and posted a 9.03 ERA with a 1-3 record. Kalafatis has already begun to shake things up for next season. Kalafatis has named captains who will hold their positions until the team re-votes later in the year. Junior shortstop Alicia Herron, sophomore third baseman Megan Coletta and Nichols were chosen as team co-captains. “I did that so we had really good leadership,” Kalafatis said. “We had kids that could make sure other kids were being accountable as far as working out, staying in shape and just getting in the mindset.” Herron said she is excited for another shot to get back to the top of the conference during her upcoming senior season. “We have seen what could go wrong, and everything that could, did,” Herron said. “Now that it’s out of the way, we’ll be better at making adjustments, and we’ll have to focus on the details again.” read more

NHS crisis plan to cancel operations and appointments as winter draws in

first_imgLast month the head of England’s health watchdog said hospitals were being forced to choose between meeting waiting times and providing decent quality care.David Behan, chief executive of the Care Quality Commission, told a recent board meeting that he would rather ramp up waiting times than see a drop in care quality. However he said the public “and politicians in particular” place a high value on the waiting targets.Mr Behan told colleagues that “it would be silly to deny” that care quality could be at risk due to the current financial constraints, with a record £2.45bn deficit declared last year.“I see the evidence of waiting times increasing, times in A&E increasing, where people are trying to hold on to quality and doing their best to balance money,” he said.“If I was trying to run a trust at the minute I think that is the balance I would be trying to strike.”An NHS England spokesman said: “The NHS again proved resilient this winter despite further increase in demand, with fewer trusts reporting serious operational issues and a significant reduction in trolley waits. We are already preparing for the upcoming winter with hospitals, GPs, social services and other health professionals coming together to work out the best way of responding in every area of the country.”Latest figures show the number of elderly people needlessly stuck in hospital has reached record levels, with an 80 per cent rise in bed days lost to delayed discharges in five years. The monthly figures also show just 90.5 per cent of A&E patients were seen within four hours, against a target of 95 per cent – the worst June figures on record. Hospitals are to cancel thousands of operations and appointments in a desperate bid to stop the NHS “buckling” this winter, under Government plans.Health officials are drawing up contingency measures to attempt to safeguard emergency care by diverting senior doctors from operating theatres into wards and Accident & Emergency departments as winter sets in.The national plan, detailed in evidence to the Commons health select committee, comes amid concern that the NHS is already in the grip of the worst bed-blocking crisis on record.Last night, Britain’s most senior A&E doctor said hospitals were under such strain that a bad outbreak of flu this winter would be enough to leave services “poleaxed”.In evidence to the select committee, which is about to open an inquiry into NHS winter pressures, officials outlined sweeping measures planned. Each hospital trust has been ordered to draw up specific plans to cope this winter, with new “A&E delivery boards” to be set up within a fortnight. The plans will see the cancellation of thousands of operations and appointments in the run-up to Christmas, with senior doctors asked to concentrate on discharging any patients who can safely be sent home, in a bid to free up beds. The health service is already braced for rolling strikes from junior doctors throughout autumn, after the British Medical Association threatened to hold the “trade union dispute of the century” in protest at new contracts. NHS logo The Royal College of Nursing warned of a ‘drastic’ shortage of staffCredit:PA Official figures show 6,000 more A&E attendances daily, compared with six years ago, with rising demand from an aging population. The RCN warned of a “drastic shortage” of nurses in A&E, with vacancy rates of up to 20 per cent in some departments.  And the Royal College of Emergency Medicine said numbers of doctors and beds are falling far short of what is required.Dr Cliff Mann, RCEM president told the Telegraph: “What is really worrying is that when you look at last winter, the NHS came under very heavy pressures despite mild weather and little flu. All it would take is a bad flu outbreak this winter and we would be poleaxed.”The RCEM evidence says the UK now has the lowest number of beds per capita in Europe, with 11,000 attendances per consultant – the highest of any developed country. The college says acute bed numbers have fallen by 6 per cent in England over the past five years, at a time when emergency admissions have risen by 17 per cent. Nurse  Every hospital trust has been told to draw up a winter plan Credit:PA In evidence to the MPs’ inquiry, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said hospitals are “buckling” under the strain of rising demand. Lack of food pushes 23m people to flee Venezuela — UN

Thousands of Venezuelans cross into Colombia daily, escaping an economic crisis at home (BBC/EPA photo)UNITED NATIONS, United States (AFP) — About 2.3 million Venezuelans have fled their crisis-hit country mainly because of a lack of food as severe shortages of medicine has left thousands at risk, a UN spokesman said Tuesday. The Venezuelans have fled to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.“People cite the lack of food as their main reason for leaving,” said UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric. About 1.3 million Venezuelans are suffering from malnourishment.Severe shortages of medicine and medical supplies have led to a “sharp deterioration of the quality of hospitals,” he said, citing UN humanitarian officials.More than 100,000 Venezuelans living with HIV/AIDS are “at risk due to lack of access to necessary medication,” he said.Diseases that had been eradicated such as measles, malaria, tuberculosis and diphtheria have reappeared and are on the rise.Oil-rich Venezuela has been in an economic freefall since a drop in oil prices in 2014 left a gaping hole in the country’s finances. Ubisoft allows Watch Dogs singleplayer missions to be preorder exclusives

first_imgAs a gamer, I’m fine with retailers securing exclusive items to tempt you into placing a new game pre-order with them. But those items should not extend to actual gameplay, and that’s the mistake Ubisoft seems to be making with Watch Dogs. Both Amazon and GameStop have managed to secure exclusive single-player missions for those of us who pre-order the game with them. That means, as a gamer you won’t be able to experience all missions Ubisoft has created for the game unless you buy the game from multiple retailers.Chances are such exclusive missions will be offered later in the game’s lifecycle as either part of a DLC pack or Game of the Year edition. But that’s not the point. The gameplay should not be limited based on where you purchase the title from. Sure, give us a t-shirt, a nice game box, or even an in-game item to wear or use, but blocking access to actual missions is going to anger players and especially completists.Pre-ordering the game from Amazon will get you the Signature Shot Pack, which includes an exclusive mission where you steal from the Black Viceroy gang. Completing the mission nets the player a Black Viceroy’s Outfit and a unique Biometric Assault Rifle. Alternatively, pre-ordering Watch Dogs from GameStop gets you the Palace Pack, which includes an exclusive mission where you wipe the hard drives at an Internet billionaire’s mansion. You also get a hacking boost allowing you to get more money out of ATMs.Watch Dogs is set to be released on November 19 and you can watch 6 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay to see what all the fuss is about. If you feel strongly about gameplay not being used as a pre-order bonus, then I’d suggest you let Ubisoft know by purchasing the game from a retailer who isn’t advertising an exclusive mission as an incentive for buying.last_img read more

New year new job

first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram The start of a new year is a good time to reflect on past goals but also set new goals for the upcoming year; this includes your current employment situation. The beginning of a new year is a great time to evaluate your current role and, in some cases, start a new job search. However, getting the right cultural fit for both the employee and employer should be the basis of every job search, says Nick Deligiannis, managing director of Hays Recruitment Firm. ‘Cultural fit’ refers to a combination of the skills set needed to fulfil the job role but also a passion and the ability a person possesses to provide excellent customer service for the company. “Any good employer will realise that getting the mix right between technical skills – so not neglecting that and industry experience and knowledge of a certain position – but in conjunction with that making sure they are closely assessing cultural fit,” says Mr Deligiannis. He says “smart employers” will look at whether or not the person will fit into the values of an organisation; whether or not they are passionate about the values of that organisation; and how they will fit into the environment of the organisation. A combination of technical skills and personality is what employers are increasingly looking for. Deligiannis says assessing cultural values and cultural fit is just as important for an employee and employer as technical skills. “The cost of employing the correct person is really important in an organisation. If you get it wrong, it’s costly, but if you get it right, it adds value.” “If you are working for a company like Apple, that develops really innovative leading edge products, I think one of their values is innovation and creativity; so if you are someone who displays that and is passionate and creative, they’re going to want to employ people in their organisation that match those values.” If you are faced with an interview opportunity, Deligiannis suggests you do your research well and tailor your interview answers to fit the company’s values and goals. “Always research an organisation and then tailor what you bring to the table and what you can offer that organisation,” he says. “Jump online, as there is great information there. Look at the company’s web site. “Look at any news relating to that organisation. If you know someone who works there or has worked there, speak to them. Work out what the key elements of that organisation are, and how your skills and personality align with that organisation, and then you can project yourself in the most positive way in the interview.” The need to embrace mobile technology, a focus on staff retention and the use of a contingent workforce are among the 2013 talent trends that will shape the recruitment landscape in Australia, according to Hays research. “We expect that businesses will also have to rise to the challenge of sourcing candidates from overseas and becoming more diverse as we see candidates remain in the workforce for longer due to our aging population,” says Mr Deligiannis. “Skills shortages are also expected to continue to be an issue in certain sectors, such as healthcare and IT.” Employers in 2013 are expected to take a conservative approach to hiring following a year of redundancies and cost cutting. But overall, the Australian economy is expected to continue to grow by 3 per cent in 2013 – albeit more modestly than in 2012 – before picking up pace towards the end of the year.last_img read more
