Gorski kotar could get an umbrella tourist board?

admin

first_imgAll representatives of tourism agree that Gorski kotar is a unique destination, but in that part of Croatia, with informal coordination of activities, there are currently as many as nine city and municipal tourist boards, reports Croatian radio. Glavina believes that the organization of the umbrella tourist board of Gorski kotar would not abolish the existing jobs in tourist offices. “With the establishment of one tourist community for the area of Gorski Kotar, everyone can still keep their tourist information centers, and through them it is possible to perform a number of previous tasks. However, the goal of creating the Gorski kotar brand is to experience the area as a whole and not push individually any city or municipality”, He explained. “We have provided two separate funds to which those who choose the model of functioning through joint tourist boards will have access. At the same time, we increased the financial capacity of the fund, intended for underdeveloped tourist areas, estimating that Croatia cannot be developed as a year-round destination if we do not develop its continental part and rural areas.”, Said Tonči Glavina, State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism. Residents of Gorski Kotar are in doubt about the legal changes – whether to maintain the status quo from the beginning of next year or to encourage the establishment of a joint tourist board that would be responsible for the destination. There are fears that the establishment of an umbrella tourist board, in addition to existing city and municipal ones, could further burden local budgets.center_img Residents of Gorski Kotar should not worry about the legal provision according to which tourist boards should pay 40 percent of their own income for employees’ salaries. “The goal is not to shut down the existing tourist boards, but to change the existing one and promote the project way of working. Projects have to be written, and with each new project revenue grows and the aforementioned 40 percent limit becomes a much smaller problem”, Concluded Glavina.
